Ryan Closs is a Lutenist and Multi-instrumentalist from Long Island, New York. His instruments have brought him to many workshops and festivals to study with the top performers in his fields. Having grown up with a strong background in Rock and Jazz music, his classical studies have urged him to dig deeper towards unlocking the early music secrets of plucked string performance. Still performing today’s pop-music hits, as well the famous ‘pop-music’ from previous eras, provides an enlightened perspective of how music and poetry speak to us in ways that are simply timeless.
Now an avid enthusiast of early music practices, Ryan participates in many outreach concerts bringing the Lute to new audiences performing the olde folk songs, complimented with new contemporary folk songs in a universal Troubador fashion.
Ryan has an A.A.S in Classical Guitar performance from SUNY Nassau Community College, a B.S. in Lute Studies from Adelphi University, and studied for a while at CUNY Queens College before completing his Bachelors. His primary instructors for these degrees have been:
Steve Leonard, Bill Zito, Chris Morrongiello, & Pat O'Brien
Ryan is available for Outreach performances, Solo concerts, and Ensemble work on:
